The approach of combining hands-on experience and mentoring by skilled tradespeople is still as valid today as it was at the start of the last millennium.

Joint Apprenticeship Committees (JAC) strive to develop a complete training agenda for the construction industry in trades that start with the excavation of the site and continue until the final coat of paint. We have built on a commitment from unionized contractors to support apprenticeship both on the job and in state of the art training centres.

Currently, $40 million per year is spent on apprenticeship training and journey person upgrading in Ontario. There are 95 joint labour/management training centres across the province, representing $260 million worth of training infrastructure. A key element in the success of the COBT is a network of training centres located throughout the GTA. They are unique in the fact that they are funded in large part by an hourly contribution by the working members and union contractors.
